- Original Manuscripts of the Bible Have All Perished:
- Parchment was known to Paul. In 2 Timothy 4:13, he says, “Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come, and the books, especially the PARCHMENTS.”
- Papyrus was also utilized. In 2 John 12, it’s mentioned, “Having many things to write to you, I did not wish to do so with PAPER and INK; but I hope to come to you and speak face to face, that our joy may be full.”
- Both materials, parchment and papyrus, were fragile, and constant use made replacements necessary.
- Copies, known as MANUSCRIPTS, were made by hand.
- Most manuscripts still available today date back no earlier than the 4th century A.D.
- There are four major manuscripts, alongside thousands of less important ones:
- The Vatican Manuscript
- The Sinaitic Manuscript
- The Alexandrian Manuscript
- The Ephraem Manuscript
