When it comes to being lost, the blame cannot be placed on God, Christ, or the Holy Spirit. Here’s why:
- Not God: God’s love and desire for salvation are evident through His actions, such as giving His Son (John 3:16-17), desiring all to be saved (1 Timothy 2:3-4), and offering the gospel to all (Romans 1:16).
- Not Christ: Christ’s sacrifice and invitation are extended to all, as He died for all (Hebrews 2:9), invites all to come to Him (Matthew 11:28-30), and desires all to repent and be saved (2 Peter 3:9).
- Not the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit played a role in inspiring the writing of the Bible (2 Peter 1:21) and extends invitations for salvation (Revelation 22:17).
Ultimately, the responsibility lies with the individual. Blame cannot be shifted elsewhere. Each person is accountable for their own salvation:
- Blame Only Yourself: Individuals are urged to save themselves (Acts 2:40), work out their own salvation (Philippians 2:12), and obey the gospel (Hebrews 5:9). Salvation requires personal choice, faith, and obedience. Therefore, the blame for being lost rests solely on oneself.
