The meeting of grace and faith exemplifies the divine interaction between God’s unmerited favor and humanity’s trust in Him:
Grace: God’s unmerited favor is extended to sinful humanity, granting them blessings they do not deserve.
Faith: Faith is believing in unseen truths as facts, demonstrating trust in God’s promises and provisions.
Mercy and Grace: While mercy withholds punishment that sinful men deserve, grace grants them blessings they do not deserve.
Examples of Grace and Faith:
- Noah: Found favor in the eyes of God and obeyed His word, resulting in salvation for his household (Genesis 6:11-22).
- Abraham: Responded to God’s call in faith, leading to justification and blessings for all nations (Genesis 12:1-3, Hebrews 11:8-10).
- Israelites: Witnessed God’s grace through deliverance from Egypt and experienced salvation through faith at the Red Sea (Exodus 14-15, 1 Corinthians 10:1-4).
- Naaman: Received healing and cleansing from leprosy by obeying the word of Elisha in faith (2 Kings 5:1-15, Luke 4:27).
- Blind Man: Received sight by obeying Jesus’ command in faith to wash in the pool of Siloam (John 9:1-11).
- Pentecostians: Heard the preaching of Peter, believed, and were baptized, resulting in salvation and the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-47, Acts 2:41-42).
- Samaritans: Believed Philip’s preaching and were baptized, experiencing salvation and unity with the church (Acts 8:5-12, Acts 8:14).
- Ethiopian Eunuch: Heard Philip preach the gospel, believed, and was baptized, experiencing salvation and rejoicing (Acts 8:26-40, Acts 8:36-39).
In each case, faith was accompanied by obedience to God’s word, leading to salvation, justification, deliverance, cleansing, and healing. Grace is extended to all through the preaching of the word, and faith responds in obedience, resulting in the reception of God’s blessings and salvation.
