Cultivating Proper Attitudes in Worship.

Psalm 122:1 captures the spirit of joyful anticipation as believers gather to worship the Lord together. It sets the tone for understanding the proper attitudes that should accompany our worship experience.

  1. Submission to God’s Will (Acts 10:33): Worship involves surrendering our own desires and submitting to God’s perfect will. Recognizing His sovereignty and yielding to His guidance leads to a deeper connection with Him.
  2. Forgiveness Toward Others (Matthew 18:21): Worship is hindered by harboring resentment or unforgiveness. As we extend forgiveness to others, we reflect the grace and mercy we have received from God, fostering unity and reconciliation in the body of Christ.
  3. Sacrifice (Romans 12:1-2): True worship requires offering ourselves as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God. This involves surrendering our desires, ambitions, and priorities to align with God’s purposes, allowing Him to transform our hearts and minds.
  4. Humility (James 4:6): Approaching God with humility acknowledges our dependence on Him and recognizes His greatness. Humble worship opens the door for God’s grace to flow into our lives, lifting us up and exalting His name above all else.
  5. Prayer (James 5:16): Worship is more than just singing songs or participating in rituals; it is a conversation with God. Engaging in prayer during worship invites His presence into our midst, fostering intimacy and communion with Him.
  6. Joy (Psalm 51:12): Worship should be marked by joy, not just a fleeting emotion but a deep-seated rejoicing in the goodness and faithfulness of God. This joy springs from knowing that we are in His presence and experiencing His love and grace.

As we cultivate these attitudes in our worship, our gatherings become more than rituals; they become transformative encounters with the living God. Let us approach worship with hearts open to submission, forgiveness, sacrifice, humility, prayer, and joy, seeking to honor and glorify our Heavenly Father in all that we do.
