The story from France illustrates the determination of a poor blind girl who learned to read the Gospel of Mark in raised letters by feeling the text with her fingertips. Over time, her fingertips became calloused from constant reading, leading to a diminished sense of touch. In an attempt to regain sensitivity, she unfortunately ended up damaging her fingertips. Distraught, she believed she had to give up reading her beloved Book.
In tears, she kissed the Gospel, bidding it farewell. To her surprise, her lips, more sensitive than her fingers, were able to discern the shape of the letters. Throughout the night, she joyously continued reading the Word of God with her lips, celebrating this newfound ability.
