At the Cross

  • God’s Love Was Manifested
  • John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
  • 1 John 4:9-10: “This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.”
  • Mosaical Law Was Finished
  • Matthew 5:17-18: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of the pen will pass from the Law until everything is accomplished.”
  • Romans 10:4: “Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.”
  • Colossians 2:14-17: “Having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”
  • The Church Was Bought
  • Acts 20:28: “Be shepherds of the church of God, which He bought with His own blood.”
  • Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her.”
  • Jews and Gentiles Were Reconciled
  • Ephesians 2:14-17: “For He Himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility… He came and preached peace to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.”
  • Yes, When Christ Was on the Cross, You Were on His Mind
Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was not just for a distant time but for every individual, including you—He had you in mind, personally, as He endured the suffering.
  • Peace Was Made with God
  • Colossians 1:20: “And through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through His blood, shed on the cross.”
  • The Price Was Paid to Free Mankind from Bondage
  • Hebrews 2:10: “In bringing many sons and daughters to glory, it was fitting that God, for whom and through whom everything exists, should make the pioneer of their salvation perfect through what He suffered.”
  • 1 Peter 1:18-19: “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed… but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
  • The Price Was Paid for Sin
  • John 19:32-34: “The soldiers came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other. But when they came to Jesus and found that He was already dead, they did not break His legs. Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.”
  • Revelation 1:5: “To Him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by His blood.”
  • Ephesians 1:7: “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”

At the cross, God’s love, fulfillment of the law, reconciliation, and peace were all realized. Jesus’ sacrifice paid the price for sin, set mankind free, and bought the church with His own blood. His atoning work extends grace to all—Jews and Gentiles alike.
