How the Holy Spirit Guides the Church

  • In the 1st Century:
In the early church, the Holy Spirit guided believers by inspiring men (apostles, prophets, and leaders) to preach the gospel, teach doctrine, and make decisions on behalf of the church. The Holy Spirit worked through individuals, giving them divine wisdom, discernment, and empowerment to carry out God’s will. This guidance was seen in the apostles’ teachings, miracles, and prophecies that helped establish and grow the early Christian community.
  • Today:
In the present day, the Holy Spirit continues to guide the church, but now primarily through the inspired book—the Bible. The Holy Spirit illuminates the Scriptures, helping believers understand God’s will, live righteous lives, and make decisions in alignment with His teachings. The Bible serves as the foundation of faith, offering wisdom, direction, and correction for the church in every generation. Through the Holy Spirit’s work in the hearts of Christians, the church is guided in its worship, mission, and daily living.
