To help you meditate during the Lord’s Supper, reflect on these significant numbers:
- 5 – The Number of Times the Lord’s Body Was Pierced
- Four nails pierced His hands and feet to secure Him to the cross.
- The sword pierced His side. John 19:34
- Reflect on the physical suffering of Christ for our sins.
- 4 – The Number of Parts into Which His Clothes Were Divided
- The division of His clothes and casting lots were prophesied. Psalm 22:16-18 and fulfilled in John 19:23-24.
- All that happened to Jesus was part of God’s eternal plan. 1 Peter 1:20; Revelation 13:8.
- 3 – The Number of Crosses
- One man dying for sin (Jesus), one man dying to sin (the repentant thief), and one man dying in sin (the unrepentant thief).
- Today, we are like one of these two men—where do you stand in relation to Christ?
- 2 – The Number of Eternal Destinies
- Heaven and Hell. John 5:28-29
- The Lord’s Supper reminds us that Jesus will return to bring us to eternal life or judgment.
- 1 – The Number of the Uniqueness of the Gift the Father Gave
- His only Begotten Son. John 3:16; 1 John 4:10; Romans 8:32
- God gave us what was most precious to Him for our salvation.
