1 Thessalonians 2:18
Satan continues to hinder people today in various ways. His tactics are aimed at distracting, deceiving, and weakening the faith of believers. Below are the ways Satan hinders men:
1. Diversions
Satan uses distractions to draw people away from God’s work and the pursuit of righteousness.
- 2 Corinthians 4:4 – The god of this age blinds the minds of unbelievers.
- 2 Corinthians 2:11 – We should not be ignorant of Satan’s devices.
- 1 John 2:15-17 – Love for the world distracts from the love of God.
- James 4:4 – Friendship with the world is enmity with God.
2. Delusions
Satan seeks to deceive people, leading them into false beliefs and practices.
- Matthew 7:15 – Beware of false prophets.
- Luke 8:12 – The devil takes away the word from the hearts of those who hear it.
- 1 John 4:1 – Test the spirits, for not all are from God.
- 2 Corinthians 11:13-15 – Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
3. Doubtful Minds
Satan works through doubts and uncertainties to destabilize faith.
- Romans 14:23 – Anything done without faith is sin.
- John 10:24-26 – The Jews asked Jesus for a clear answer, but they still did not believe.
- John 20:30-31 – The purpose of the Gospel is that we may believe and have life in His name.
4. Double Minds
Satan fosters a divided heart, making people unstable in their devotion to God.
- James 1:8 – A double-minded man is unstable in all his ways.
- Matthew 6:24 – No one can serve two masters.
- 1 Kings 18:21 – How long will you hesitate between two opinions?
5. Deadness
Satan encourages spiritual deadness, causing people to be indifferent or lukewarm in their faith.
- James 2:26 – Faith without works is dead.
- Hebrews 6:1-3 – We are called to move on from elementary teachings toward maturity.
- 2 Peter 3:18 – Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior.
6. Delay
Satan leads people to procrastinate, putting off spiritual decisions and commitments.
- Luke 9:59-62 – Excuses and delays hinder the call of discipleship.
- Acts 24:25 – Felix procrastinated his decision, putting off the gospel for a more convenient time.
- Matthew 25:8-13 – The five foolish virgins delayed their preparation and missed the opportunity.
Solution: Resist the Devil
- James 4:7 – “Resist the devil and he will flee from you.”
This verse reminds believers that standing firm in faith, rejecting Satan’s temptations, and drawing near to God will result in victory over his hindrances.
