False Ideas About God

Bible images
  1. Some Think God is Physical.
    • He is not! (John 4:24)
God is spirit, not a physical being. He is not confined to a human form or a physical presence.
  2. Some Think God is Far Off.
    • He is not! (Acts 17:27-28)
God is near to all who seek Him. He is present and active in the lives of His creation.
  3. Some Think God is a God of Confusion.
    • He is not! (1 Corinthians 14:33)
God is not the author of confusion. He brings peace, clarity, and order to His creation.
  4. Some Think God is Too Good to Condemn Anybody.
    • The truth is, God is too good to condone sin!
God’s goodness and justice require that sin be addressed. He offers grace through Jesus Christ but does not overlook sin.
  5. Some Think God is Like a Man.
    • He isn’t!
While mankind is created in God’s image, God is not like a man in His nature, thoughts, or ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).
  6. Some Think God is an American God.
    • He is the God of all nations! (Acts 17:26)
God is not confined to any one nation or culture; He is the Creator and Lord of all peoples.
  7. Some Think God Should Be Blamed When Tragedy Strikes.
    • Not so!
While God allows suffering and evil to exist in the world, He is not the direct cause of tragedy. The consequences of sin, human free will, and the brokenness of the world contribute to suffering.

These false ideas often distort the true nature of God, which is revealed through Scripture as loving, just, omnipresent, and above human understanding. It is crucial to correct these misconceptions in order to better know and understand God’s true character.
