The Christian’s Walk

As Christians, our daily lives should reflect the teachings of Christ. Our walk should be one that honors God and follows the example set by Jesus. Here are key aspects of the Christian’s walk:

  1. A Christian should walk worthy of his vocation
    • Ephesians 4:1: “I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called.”
    • Colossians 1:10: “That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God.”
      • Our walk should reflect the calling we have received as children of God, striving to live in a manner worthy of the grace we have been given.
  2. A Christian should walk by faith
    • 2 Corinthians 5:7: “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
      • Walking by faith means trusting in God’s promises and guidance, even when circumstances may not be clear. It’s living with a deep assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.
  3. A Christian should walk in love
    • John 15:10: “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.”
    • Ephesians 5:2: “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
      • Our walk should be marked by love—love for God, love for others, and love that is sacrificial, as demonstrated by Christ.
  4. A Christian should walk circumspectly
    • Ephesians 5:15: “See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.”
      • To walk circumspectly means to live with careful attention to how we live and the choices we make, being mindful of our actions and their impact on our relationship with God and others.
  5. A Christian should walk separately
    • Ephesians 4:17: “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind.”
    • 2 Corinthians 6:14-17: “Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? … Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
      • Christians are called to live a life that is distinct from the world, avoiding practices that contradict God’s will and maintaining a separate identity that reflects the holiness of God.
  6. A Christian should walk honestly
    • 2 Corinthians 4:2: “But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God deceitfully; but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”
    • 1 Thessalonians 5:12: “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you.”
      • Walking honestly involves integrity, being truthful in our actions, words, and dealings with others, reflecting the righteousness of God in every aspect of our lives.
  7. A Christian should walk even as He walked
    • 1 John 2:6: “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
      • Jesus is the ultimate example of how we should walk. Our life should mirror His in humility, obedience to the Father, love for others, and a commitment to doing God’s will.

Summary:
The Christian’s walk is not just about physical movement but is a metaphor for how we live our lives in relation to God and others. Each of these aspects—walking worthy, by faith, in love, circumspectly, separately, honestly, and as Christ walked—helps shape the life of a believer who desires to honor God in every part of their life.
