Christ’s Attractability

Bible images

Christ’s life and ministry displayed an unparalleled attractability, drawing a wide range of people, from children to soldiers, and even those living in sin. His message, love, and presence were compelling, offering grace and truth to all. Below are examples of Christ’s magnetic influence as seen through Scripture.

1. MOTHERS BROUGHT THEIR CHILDREN TO HIM

Christ’s compassion for children was a clear demonstration of His loving nature and ability to draw people.

  • Mark 10:13-14: “Then they brought little children to Him, that He might touch them; but the disciples rebuked those who brought them. But when Jesus saw it, He was greatly displeased and said to them, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.’”
Jesus’ openness to children reflected His deep care and the ease with which people, even children, felt drawn to Him.

2. CHILDREN WERE ATTRACTED TO HIM

Not only did mothers bring their children to Jesus, but the children themselves were naturally attracted to Him. His demeanor was one of gentleness and love.

  • Matthew 19:13-14: “Then little children were brought to Him that He might put His hands on them and pray; but the disciples rebuked them. But Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of heaven.’”
This passage highlights that Christ’s love was not just for adults but extended to children, creating an environment where they felt welcomed.

3. SINNERS CAME TO HIM

Jesus’ ability to attract sinners was another powerful aspect of His ministry. He welcomed them, offering forgiveness and the chance for transformation.

  • Acts 26:13-19: In Paul’s testimony to King Agrippa, he recounts Christ’s calling and how sinners, even those like Paul himself, were drawn to Christ’s light and message.
Christ’s purpose was to call sinners to repentance, not to condemn them but to offer salvation through Himself.

4. MEN FOLLOWED HIM

The calling of men, particularly His disciples, demonstrates Christ’s ability to inspire people to leave everything behind and follow Him.

  • Luke 5:11, 28: “So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him.”
Jesus’ calling was magnetic, compelling men to abandon their lives, their careers, and their possessions to follow Him.

5. MARY LOVED HIM

Mary of Bethany’s love for Christ was deeply evident in her actions and her devotion.

  • John 12:3: “Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.”
Mary’s act of love and worship reflected her deep affection for Christ, drawing her to offer Him something precious in recognition of His worth.

6. THE SOLDIERS WERE CHARMED BY HIM

Even the soldiers, who were typically hardened men of war, found themselves struck by the nature of Christ.

  • John 7:46: “The officers answered, ‘No man ever spoke like this Man!’”
Christ’s words and actions captivated even those who might have been initially sent to arrest Him, showing how His presence left an impression even on those outside His inner circle.

7. THE CENTURION CONFESSED HIM

A Roman centurion, a man of authority and military discipline, acknowledged the power and divine nature of Jesus.

  • Luke 23:47: “So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, ‘Certainly this was a righteous Man!’”
The centurion’s recognition of Jesus as righteous, especially after witnessing His death, reflects the profound impact Christ had even on those who might have been part of His execution.

Conclusion

Christ’s attractability is evident in the way people from all walks of life—whether children, sinners, soldiers, or even religious leaders—were drawn to Him. His love, compassion, and righteousness created a gravitational pull that continues to draw people today. His ability to connect with people, to love and understand them, is an aspect of His character that makes Him the Savior and Lord of all.
