God’s Two Laws of Pardon

For the Alien Sinner (Non-Christian):

  1. The Gospel Must Be Heard
    • Romans 10:17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
    • John 8:32: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
  2. The Gospel Must Be Believed
    • John 8:24: “I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.”
    • Mark 16:16: “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
  3. Sins Must Be Repented Of
    • Luke 13:3, 5: “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
    • Acts 2:38: “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
  4. Christ Must Be Confessed
    • Matthew 10:32-33: “Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.”
    • Romans 10:10: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
  5. Baptism (Immersion) for the Remission of Sins
    • Acts 2:38: “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…”
    • 1 Peter 3:21: “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us…”
    • Acts 22:16: “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
    • Galatians 3:27: “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.”

For the Erring Christian (Those Who Have Fallen Away):

  1. Christians Do Err
    • James 5:19-20: “Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him…”
    • 1 Timothy 4:1: “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith…”
    • Galatians 6:1: “Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness…”
  2. Sins Must Be Repented Of
    • Acts 8:22: “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee.”
  3. Sins Must Be Confessed
    • 1 John 1:8-10: “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins…”
  4. There Must Be Prayer
    • 1 John 2:1-2: “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous…”
    • Acts 8:22: “Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God…”

Conclusion:
The path to salvation and restoration for both the alien sinner and the erring Christian is clear through God’s two laws of pardon: obedience to the Gospel for the sinner, and repentance, confession, and prayer for the Christian who has fallen away.
