These significant events occurred on Resurrection Sunday:
- Mary Magdalene, Mary (the mother of James), and Salome go to the tomb

These women had witnessed Jesus’ burial and went to the tomb early on the first day of the week to anoint His body with spices. - The three women find the stone rolled away
– Luke 24:1-11
When they arrive at the tomb, they discover that the stone had been rolled away, and the tomb was empty. Two angels appear to them, announcing that Jesus has risen. - Mary Magdalene goes to tell the disciples

Upon finding the empty tomb, Mary Magdalene runs to tell Peter and John, saying, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” - Peter and John arrive and see the empty tomb (Peter enters the tomb)

Peter and John run to the tomb after hearing Mary’s news. John arrives first but waits for Peter. Peter enters the tomb and finds the linen cloths, but no body. - Jesus appeared to Mary Magdalene

Mary Magdalene remains outside the tomb weeping. She sees two angels and then Jesus, though she does not initially recognize Him. Jesus speaks to her, and she realizes it is Him. - Mary Magdalene returns, weeping, sees two angels, then Jesus

Jesus instructs Mary Magdalene to go and tell His disciples that He is ascending to His Father. She goes and delivers the message, telling the disciples she has seen the Lord. - Jesus appeared to the other women
– Matthew 28:9-10
The other women, on their way to tell the disciples, encounter Jesus. He greets them, and they worship Him. He instructs them to tell His disciples to go to Galilee. - Guards reported the resurrection
– Matthew 28:11-15
The guards who had been stationed at the tomb report to the chief priests what happened. The priests bribe them to spread the lie that the disciples stole Jesus’ body while they slept. - Jesus appeared to two disciples on the way to Emmaus
– Luke 24:13-35
Two disciples were traveling to Emmaus when Jesus appeared to them, though they did not initially recognize Him. He explained the Scriptures to them, and when He broke bread, they recognized Him. - Jesus appeared to ten of the apostles (Thomas being absent)
– John 20:19-25
Jesus appears to the disciples in a locked room, showing them His hands and side to prove His identity. Thomas was absent, and he later expresses doubt about Jesus’ resurrection.
“He is not here: for he is risen.”
– Matthew 28:6
The angel at the tomb announces the glorious truth of the resurrection—Jesus has risen from the dead, as He said He would.
