“I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter what has been hidden since the foundation of the world.”
– Matthew 13:35

Jesus often used parables to illustrate deep spiritual truths. Among these, several parables focus on weddings and feasts, highlighting themes of invitation, preparation, and the nature of God’s kingdom. Here are some of the parables related to these themes:

1. The Children in the Marketplace

Matthew 11:16-19
Luke 7:31-35
This parable illustrates how people respond to God’s message. Some reject it, while others are unwilling to listen to the message of salvation, even as children in the marketplace would not dance to the music played.

2. The Arrogant Guest

Luke 14:7-11
Jesus shares a story about guests at a wedding banquet, emphasizing humility. The parable teaches that those who exalt themselves will be humbled, while those who humble themselves will be exalted.

3. The Bridegroom’s Friend

Matthew 9:15
Mark 2:18
John 3:28
In this parable, Jesus compares His presence to a wedding feast, saying that when the bridegroom (Jesus) is with His disciples, they cannot fast. The disciples of John the Baptist ask about fasting, but Jesus responds that there will be a time for fasting when He is no longer with them.

4. The Wise and Foolish Virgins

Matthew 25:1-13
This parable is about ten virgins who were waiting for the bridegroom. Five were wise and brought extra oil, while five were foolish and ran out. The lesson is about being prepared for the return of Christ.

5. The Tower Building

Luke 14:28-32
While not directly about a wedding or feast, this parable involves planning for a large project (such as building a tower). Jesus uses this analogy to teach the importance of counting the cost of discipleship, just as one would consider the cost of building before starting.

6. The Wedding Feast

Matthew 22:1-10
This parable tells of a king who invites guests to a wedding feast. Many refuse to come, and others harm the king’s servants. The invitation is then extended to those who are not initially invited. This parable illustrates God’s open invitation to His kingdom and the consequences of rejecting it.

7. The Wedding Garment

Matthew 22:11-14
A continuation of the previous parable, this story focuses on a guest who attends the wedding feast without the proper garment. The guest is cast out. This teaches the necessity of spiritual preparation and righteousness to enter God’s kingdom.

8. The Rich Man and Lazarus

Luke 16:19-31
While this parable isn’t directly about a wedding, it presents two men, one rich and the other poor, and their fates after death. It highlights the idea of eternal reward and punishment, similar to the separation between the invited and uninvited in other wedding parables.

These parables, focusing on weddings and feasts, emphasize themes of preparation, humility, invitation, and the readiness required for entry into the kingdom of heaven.
