When Jesus Returns

It Will Be Sudden

  • The return of Jesus will be unexpected and sudden, catching many by surprise.
    • Matthew 24:42-44: “Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. Therefore, you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”

The Dead Will Be Raised

  • Jesus will raise the dead, and they will receive new, imperishable bodies.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:52-53: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.”

We Shall Be Changed

  • Those who are alive at Jesus’ return will be transformed, receiving glorified bodies.
    • 1 Corinthians 15:52-53: “We shall be changed” in an instant, receiving bodies free from sin, suffering, and death.

There Will Be a Judgment

  • Every person will be judged by Jesus based on their deeds—either rewarded with eternal life or facing eternal separation from God.
    • 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9: “When the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels, in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished…”

Eternal Separation Will Take Place

  • Those who are not saved will be cast into eternal punishment, while the righteous will inherit eternal life.
    • Matthew 25:34-41: “Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.’ … Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.’”

Heaven Will Become the Final Home

  • For those who are saved, heaven will be their eternal home, a place of perfect peace and joy.
    • 1 Peter 1:2-5: “Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to His abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you.”

Life Without End Shall Begin

  • The return of Jesus marks the beginning of eternal life, a life without sin, pain, or death.
    • Revelation 21:4: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
