Parents Should Teach Their Children Respect

RESPECT IS A BIBLICAL PRINCIPLE

  1. RESPECT FOR GOD
    • Matthew 22:37Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.”
Respect for God is the foundation of all other respect. It involves honoring Him with our hearts, lives, and actions.
  2. RESPECT FOR THE HOME
    • Ephesians 6:1-3Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.”
Respect within the home is crucial for fostering a healthy, God-centered environment. Children should be taught to respect their parents and the authority within the family.
  3. RESPECT FOR FELLOW MEN
    • Matthew 7:12So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.
Respect for others is the golden rule—treating others as we would like to be treated. This principle forms the basis for healthy relationships and community.
  4. RESPECT FOR SELF
    • 1 Corinthians 6:19-20Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
Teaching children to respect themselves is important. They should understand their value in God’s eyes and the importance of living in a way that honors Him.
  5. RESPECT FOR GOVERNMENT
    • Romans 13:1Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.
Respecting government and those in authority is essential for a peaceful society. Parents should teach their children to respect the law and those who are in positions of leadership.

The Opposite of Respect is Disrespect
Disrespect can lead to broken relationships, conflicts, and disobedience. It can harm both individuals and communities. Teaching respect helps foster harmony, understanding, and godliness in all areas of life.
