The Resurrection Miracles of Jesus

Bible images

Jesus performed several miracles during His ministry, demonstrating His divine power over life and death. Among these, the Resurrection Miracles are especially significant as they reveal His authority as the giver of life. There are three main resurrection miracles that Jesus performed:

1. Jairus’ Daughter

  • Matthew 9:18-25
  • Mark 5:21-43
  • Luke 8:49-56

In this miracle, a synagogue leader named Jairus came to Jesus, pleading for the life of his dying daughter. Jesus, on the way to Jairus’ house, raised the girl from the dead after she had passed. Jesus took her by the hand and said, “Little girl, I say to you, arise!” (Mark 5:41). This miracle demonstrates Jesus’ power over both life and death, and His compassion for those in need.

2. Widow’s Son at Nain

  • Luke 7:11-15

While traveling to the town of Nain, Jesus encountered a widow mourning the death of her only son. Filled with compassion, Jesus approached the funeral procession and touched the bier, saying, “Young man, I say to you, arise!” (Luke 7:14). The young man was brought back to life, sitting up and speaking. This miracle highlights Jesus’ care for the grieving and His authority over death, as well as the great impact His miracles had on the communities He encountered.

3. Lazarus at Bethany

  • John 11:1-44

Perhaps the most famous resurrection miracle, Jesus raised His friend Lazarus from the dead after he had been in the tomb for four days. Upon arriving at the tomb, Jesus called, “Lazarus, come forth!” (John 11:43), and Lazarus emerged from the tomb, still wrapped in burial clothes. This miracle not only demonstrated Jesus’ power to raise the dead but also foreshadowed His own resurrection. It further confirmed His identity as the Son of God and the source of eternal life.

Additional Miracles of Jesus

While the three resurrection miracles above are the most well-known, John concludes his gospel by stating:

John 21:25
“And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.”

This verse reminds us that the miracles of Jesus were countless and beyond our full comprehension. The resurrection miracles, though significant, are just a few examples of the profound acts of love and power that Jesus performed during His time on earth.
