In Hebrews 9:27, the Bible reminds us that “it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” Our life is but a brief moment, and how we live it will determine what is said about us after we depart. As believers, we aim to live in such a way that our lives reflect the truth of the gospel, and when we die, these words might be spoken about us.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “He Fought a Good Fight.”
- 2 Timothy 4:7 – Paul expresses his hope that he has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. A life well-lived in Christ is one where we strive to stand firm in faith despite trials, knowing that the battle is for our eternal soul.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “His Death is Gain.”
- Philippians 1:21 – For a Christian, death is not a loss but a gain, as it leads to being in the presence of Christ. The apostle Paul said, “For me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” A faithful life culminates in eternal life with the Lord.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “His Death Was Precious.”
- Psalm 116:15 – “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” Our death, though sorrowful for those left behind, is precious in God’s eyes because it marks the transition to eternal life with Him.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “He is Far Better Now.”
- Luke 16:19 – The rich man in Luke 16 was tormented after death, but the righteous will find themselves in a far better state in the presence of God. For the Christian, death means being with the Lord, which is far better than anything this world offers.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “He Left Us an Example.”
- 1 Timothy 4:12 – Paul encourages Timothy to be an example in speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. A Christian life is one that reflects the example of Christ and serves as a model for others to follow in their own walk with God.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “He Was Faithful Unto Death.”
- Revelation 2:10 – Jesus promises the crown of life to those who are faithful unto death. Faithfulness is key to the Christian journey, enduring hardships for the sake of Christ and His kingdom.
I Hope it Can Be Said: “He Has Gone to Be with the Lord.”
- Philippians 1:23 – The apostle Paul expressed a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better. For the Christian, death is the moment when we are with the Lord, forever in His presence.
What Will Be Said About You When You Die?
The way we live and the choices we make in life shape what will be said about us after our passing. The most important question is: Have you lived a life that honors Christ, exemplifies faith, and reflects the hope of eternal life?
May our lives be a testimony to the transforming power of Christ, and when we die, may it be said that we lived well for Him.
