Matthew 28:19-20
Six Observations About People Concerned Over the Validity of Their Baptism:
- Past Submission to a Form of Baptism
- Many have experienced some type of baptism but question whether it aligned with Biblical teachings.
- Concerns About Form or Motives
- Some reflect on whether the method (sprinkling, pouring, immersion) or their intentions were in accordance with God’s Word.
- Recognizing the Importance of Baptism
- These individuals understand that baptism is a crucial step in their salvation and should not be treated lightly (Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38).
- Desire for Assurance of Salvation
- Their hearts are tender enough to seek confidence in their salvation, not wanting to live with doubt about their standing before God.
- Seeking the Right Purpose of Baptism
- They want to ensure their baptism was for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38) and not for any other reason (e.g., as a public declaration only).
- Immediate Action if Baptism Was Invalid
- If they come to understand that their first baptism was not scriptural, they are eager to obey God through true baptism without delay (Acts 19:1-5).
Key Reflection:
Have you been baptized according to God’s plan for the remission of sins, as outlined in the New Testament?
