“Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation.”
— 2 Peter 3:4
Impatience can lead to indifference, and indifference can have serious consequences:
- Indifference can damage one’s faith – A lack of urgency and expectation can erode belief and trust in God’s promises.
- Indifference can damage one’s zeal – Without anticipation of Christ’s return, one may lose the enthusiasm to serve and live for God.
- Indifference can damage one’s morals – Neglecting the urgency of Christ’s coming can lead to a compromise in moral standards.
- Indifference can damage one’s faithfulness – The mindset that “all things continue as they were” can weaken one’s commitment to living faithfully.
- Indifference can damage one’s Bible study – If the coming of the Lord is not eagerly anticipated, one may lose motivation to study God’s Word.
- Indifference can damage one’s attendance – Disinterest in Christ’s return can lead to neglecting church services and fellowship with believers.
- Indifference can damage one’s worship – A lack of expectation for the return of Christ can cause worship to become routine and less sincere.
- Indifference can damage one’s work – Without the hope of Christ’s coming, the motivation to work diligently for His Kingdom may fade.
- Indifference can damage one’s desire to continue – If one grows indifferent, the drive to press on in the Christian faith can be severely diminished.
- Indifference can damage one’s reaching Heaven – Ultimately, indifference to Christ’s return can cause one to drift away from the path that leads to eternal life.
“Therefore you also be ready: for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.”
— Matthew 24:44
Let us be watchful and patient, knowing that the return of our Lord will come at an unexpected hour, and let that expectation drive us to live faithfully and eagerly for Him.
