If Christ had not come, the course of human history, salvation, and spiritual hope would have been drastically different. Below are some of the key consequences:
1. No Universal Invitation
- Matthew 11:28-30: Without Christ, there would have been no invitation to all people to come to Him for rest and salvation. The invitation to take His yoke and learn from Him, offering peace and rest, would not exist.
2. The Law Would Not Have Been the Golden Rule
- Matthew 7:12: Without Christ, there would have been no universal principle of treating others as we wish to be treated, a command central to Christ’s teaching that encapsulates the moral heart of God’s will.
3. No Church
- Matthew 16:18: Christ’s coming established the Church, His body on earth. Without Him, there would have been no Church to carry on His mission of spreading the gospel and growing the kingdom of God.
4. The Law Would Not Have Been Fulfilled
- Matthew 5:17: Christ came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. Without Him, the Law would remain incomplete, unable to bring about true righteousness or salvation.
5. No Place Prepared for Us
- John 14:3: Christ promised that He would prepare a place for His followers in heaven. Without His coming, this promise would remain unfulfilled, and the hope of eternal life with God would be uncertain.
6. No Atonement
- John 14:3; 1 Peter 2:24: Christ’s death on the cross brought atonement for sin, allowing for reconciliation with God. Without His coming and sacrifice, humanity would still be separated from God, with no way to overcome sin.
7. No Redeeming Gospel
- 2 Timothy 1:10: Without Christ, the gospel would not offer redemption from sin and death. His grace and the power of His resurrection give hope for eternal life, a hope that would otherwise be unattainable.
8. No Gain in Death
- Philippians 1:21: Without Christ, death would remain a final and hopeless end. But with Him, death is seen as gain—an entrance into eternal life with Christ. His resurrection promises victory over death.
Christ’s coming changed everything—bringing the invitation of salvation, fulfilling the Law, establishing the Church, and offering hope through His atonement. Without Him, humanity would be left without redemption, purpose, and eternal hope.
