1. Obey the Truth
The taught are called to listen, understand, and act upon the truth of God’s Word. They must not merely hear, but also follow it faithfully.

  • Matthew 13:15; 7:24-27: Those who hear and act on Jesus’ teachings are wise.
  • James 1:22-25: Be doers of the Word, not just hearers, or you deceive yourself.
  • Acts 2:41; 18:8: Many who heard the Word obeyed it and were baptized.

2. Apply the Word
The Word must be studied and applied in daily life, sharpening discernment and spiritual growth.

  • Acts 17:11: The Bereans studied the Scriptures daily to confirm the truth.
  • Hebrews 5:14: Spiritual maturity comes from practicing the Word.
  • Matthew 23:29-33; Acts 7:51-53: Those who ignore the Word bring judgment on themselves.

3. Defend the Teaching
Believers must stand firm in defending the truth of the gospel, even against opposition.

  • Philippians 1:17; Jude 3: Defend the faith once delivered to the saints.
  • Galatians 2:5: Do not yield to false teachings.

4. Have Conviction
Followers must stand strong in their beliefs, unwavering in their faith and commitment.

  • 1 Corinthians 16:13; Ephesians 6:10-18: Be watchful, firm in faith, and equipped with the armor of God.

5. Continue in the Things Taught
Faith requires perseverance, holding firmly to the truths taught and not being led astray.

  • 2 Timothy 3:14-17: Continue in what you have learned, for Scripture equips for every good work.
  • Galatians 1:6-9; 5:7: Do not turn away to a different gospel or stop running the race.
  • 2 Corinthians 11:3: Beware of being deceived from pure devotion to Christ.

6. Teach the Same Things to Others
Those who are taught must pass on the truth to others, creating faithful disciples.

  • 2 Timothy 2:2: Teach faithful individuals who can teach others.
  • 1 Timothy 4:11-12, 16: Command, teach, and set an example in faith and purity.

7. Defy Weariness
Even when challenges arise, believers must not grow tired of doing good.

  • Galatians 6:9: Do not grow weary, for in due time, you will reap a harvest.
  • 2 Thessalonians 3:13: Never tire of doing what is right.

8. Accept the Consequences
Obedience to Christ may bring hardship, rejection, or persecution, but it is part of the cost of discipleship.

  • Galatians 1:10: Seek to please God, not people.
  • Matthew 10:34-37: Following Christ may divide even close relationships.
  • John 16:1-2: Expect opposition and persecution for His name.

Some Need the Initial Teaching, but Others Need What Follows!

  • 2 Corinthians 13:5: Examine yourself to see if you remain in the faith and continue growing.

This summarizes the responsibilities and growth expected of the taught, highlighting obedience, application, defense, perseverance, teaching others, and enduring challenges in faith.
