The taught are instructed to:
- Obey the truth: They must follow the truth as taught in scripture (Matthew 13:15; 7:24-27; James 1:22-25; Acts 2:41; 18:8).
- Apply the Word: They should apply the teachings of the Bible to their lives (Acts 17:11; Hebrews 5:14; Matthew 23:29-33; Acts 7:51-53).
- Defend the teaching: They are to stand firm in defending the gospel (Philippians 1:17; Jude 3; Galatians 2:5).
- Have some conviction: It is important to have strong faith and conviction (1 Corinthians 16:13; Ephesians 6:10-18).
- Continue in the things taught: They must persist in what they have been taught (2 Timothy 3:14-17; Galatians 1:6-9; 5:7; 2 Corinthians 11:3).
- Teach the same things to others: They are to pass on the teachings to others (2 Timothy 2:2; 1 Timothy 4:11-12, 16).
- Defy weariness: Even when tired, they should not give up in doing good (Galatians 6:9; 2 Thessalonians 3:13).
- Accept the consequence: They should be prepared to face consequences for their faith (Galatians 1:10; Matthew 10:34-37; John 16:1-2).
- Some need initial teaching, but others need what follows: While some may need to hear the gospel for the first time, others need further instruction (2 Corinthians 13:5).
