God has clearly outlined His expectations for mankind throughout Scripture, and these expectations are foundational to a meaningful relationship with Him. Here’s a summary of what God expects from us:

  1. God expects man to FEAR HIM AND OBEY HIM
    • Ecclesiastes 12:13 – “Fear God, and keep His commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Reverence for God and adherence to His commands are essential for fulfilling our duty.
  2. God expects man to PLACE HIS TRUST IN HIM
    • Psalm 4:5 – “Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord.”
Trusting in God is a foundation for peace and stability in life.
  3. God expects man to LOVE HIM
    • 1 John 4:19 – “We love Him, because He first loved us.”
Our love for God is a response to His great love for us, and it should be reflected in our lives.
  4. God expects man to be OBEDIENT TO HIS WILL
    • Revelation 22:14 – “Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life.”
Obedience to God’s will is a path to eternal life and blessing.
  5. God expects man to DESIRE HIM
    • Psalm 27:4 – “One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after.”
A deep, longing desire for God is essential in seeking His presence and knowing Him more.
  6. God expects man’s EXCLUSIVE DEVOTION
    • Matthew 4:10 – “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.”
God requires our full devotion, with no rivals in our hearts.
  7. God expects man’s PRAISE AND DEVOTION
    • Psalm 100:4 – “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise.”
Worship and praise are essential responses to God’s greatness and goodness.
  8. God expects man to WORSHIP HIM
    • John 4:21-24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”
True worship involves both spirit and truth, reflecting a sincere and heartfelt connection to God.
  9. God expects man to be HIS SERVANTS
    • Romans 6:16-18, 22 – “But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.”
As servants of God, we are called to live in righteousness, reflecting His holiness in our lives.
  10. God expects man’s PRAYERS TO BE ADDRESSED TO HIM
    • Matthew 6:9 – “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name.”
God desires our prayers to be directed to Him with reverence, acknowledging His holiness and sovereignty.

Micah 6:8: A Summary of God’s Expectations

“He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?”
This verse encapsulates the essence of God’s expectations: living justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly before Him.

In summary, God desires a relationship with us based on trust, love, obedience, and devotion. These expectations are not burdens, but are part of the design for our flourishing in a close and meaningful relationship with our Creator.
