Sin has a crippling effect on every part of a person’s being. It paralyzes the whole individual, hindering them from living in a way that honors and pleases God. Here are the ways sin affects us:
- It paralyzes the EYE that it cannot see
- John 3:3 – “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
- 2 Peter 1:9 – “For he who lacks these things is blind, short-sighted, forgetting that he was cleansed from his old sins.”
- 2 Peter 2:4 – Sin blinds us spiritually, preventing us from understanding God’s truth.
- It paralyzes the MOUTH that it cannot speak
- Psalm 32:3 – “When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long.”
- Sin leads to silence, preventing us from speaking the truth, praising God, or sharing the gospel.
- It paralyzes the HAND that it cannot work
- Luke 16:13 – “No servant can serve two masters… You cannot serve God and mammon.”
- Sin causes one’s work to be misdirected and ultimately unfruitful, unable to serve God properly.
- It paralyzes the FEET that they cannot go
- John 8:21 – “Then Jesus said to them again, ‘I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin; where I go you cannot come.’”
- Sin keeps us from walking in God’s ways, making it impossible to follow Him.
- It paralyzes the WHOLE MAN that he cannot please God
- Romans 6:8 – “Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him.”
- Sin prevents us from living in a way that pleases God, as our nature is corrupted and incapable of righteousness.
- It paralyzes the HEART that it cannot love
- Hebrews 3:13 – “But exhort one another daily, while it is called ‘Today,’ lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.”
- Sin hardens the heart, preventing us from loving God and others with sincerity.
- It paralyzes the EAR that it cannot hear
- John 8:43 – “Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.”
- Sin deafens the ear, making it difficult to hear and respond to God’s voice or to discern His will.
Sin’s paralysis affects every part of our being, but through Christ, we can be healed, restored, and empowered to live for God. The solution to this paralysis is the salvation offered through Jesus, which enables us to overcome sin’s hold and experience spiritual renewal.
