Approaches to Resolving Conflict

  • GIVE UP
  • Use only as a temporary “solution” to diffuse a heated situation.
  • Long-term “giving up” stifles the relationship.
  • WIN
  • Remember that personal relationships in marriage and family are often more important than the goal itself.
  • Winning an argument doesn’t always mean success in the relationship.
  • GIVE IN
  • While having the right motive, it fails to resolve underlying issues.
  • It can set the relationship up for long-term difficulties.
  • COMPROMISE
  • Sometimes a good option for areas of preference.
  • However, compromising at the expense of truth and right is always wrong.
  • RESOLVE
  • Always the best way to truly solve problems.
  • Resolving conflicts strengthens and maintains a healthy, mutual relationship.

Note: There is never a right way to do a wrong thing!
