The “Missing Body” Theories Versus the Truth

  • THEORY: “They looked in the wrong grave.”
    RESPONSE:
  • His disciples knew where they had buried the Lord—The memory was fresh.
  • THEORY: “His disciples stole the body away.”
    RESPONSE:
  • This was purchased testimony (Matthew 28:11-15).
  • They would have been hunted down for violating Pilate’s seal on the tomb.
  • THEORY: “His enemies took the body away.”
    RESPONSE:
  • His enemies wanted the body to remain in the tomb to prove Him a fraud.
  • Had they taken it, why did they not produce it to refute the resurrection doctrine?
  • “And the angel answered and said to the woman, Fear not ye: for I know that you seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as He said. Come see where the Lord lay.” (Matthew 28:5-6)
  • THEORY: “Christ merely swooned on the cross and later revived in the tomb.”
    RESPONSE:
  • His side was pierced—blood and water came forth. Death was pronounced by the Romans.
  • THEORY: “The witnesses were all hallucinating.”
    RESPONSE:
  • That many people could not have been similarly affected at the same time.
  • THE ONLY reasonable explanation:
  • CHRIST AROSE!
