Take Heed Therefore How You Hear

(Luke 8:18)

We Need To Hear:

  • ATTENTIVELY
  • Nehemiah 8:1-3: The people gathered to listen attentively to the reading of the Law.
  • Acts 2:14: Peter speaks boldly, and the people listen closely.
  • Luke 19:48: The people were eager to hear Jesus every day.
  • INQUIRINGLY
  • Acts 17:11: The Bereans examined the Scriptures daily to see if what Paul said was true.
  • 1 John 4:1: Believers are urged to test the spirits to discern truth.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:21: We should test all things and hold fast to what is good.
  • PERSONALLY
  • 2 Samuel 12:1-7: Nathan confronts David personally about his sin.
  • Mark 14:18-19: Jesus speaks directly to His disciples about betrayal.
  • Isaiah 5:8-9: A call to reflect on personal conduct.
  • REVERENTLY
  • Acts 10:33: Cornelius shows reverence in hearing Peter’s message.
  • Hebrews 12:28: We should serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.
  • Revelation 4:11: Worship and honor God with reverence.
  • HONESTLY
  • 1 Samuel 3:10: Samuel responds honestly to God’s call.
  • Acts 13:46: Paul and Barnabas declare the truth boldly.
  • Matthew 13:15: A warning about hardened hearts that do not hear truthfully.
  • OBEDIENTLY
  • Matthew 7:24-27: The wise man hears and acts on Jesus’ words.
  • James 1:21-25: We must not just listen but do what the Word says.
  • Hebrews 5:8-9: Jesus learned obedience through suffering.
  • EAGERLY
  • Mark 10:17: The rich young ruler eagerly approaches Jesus to ask about eternal life.
  • Acts 8:30-35: Philip eagerly engages the Ethiopian eunuch in understanding Scripture.

How Is Your Hearing?

This reflection encourages self-examination on how we approach and respond to God’s Word and messages. Are we attentive, inquiring, personal, reverent, honest, obedient, and eager in our hearing?
