Purposes of Worship

Bible images
  • To fulfill God’s commands: Worship is an act of obedience and submission to God’s will (John 4:23-24).
  • To edify and encourage others: Worship should build up and strengthen the faith of fellow believers (1 Corinthians 14:26).
  • To remember the Savior: Communion and other acts of worship often involve remembering Jesus Christ’s sacrifice and teachings (Luke 22:19).
  • To cleanse and purify one’s thoughts: Worship provides a time for reflection, repentance, and spiritual renewal (James 4:8).
  • To give glory to God: Worship is primarily about honoring and glorifying God for who He is and what He has done (Psalm 29:2).
  • To meet man’s desire for security and identification: Worship meets the human need for security, assurance, and identification with a higher power, offering peace and solace (Psalm 46:1-3; Isaiah 40:29-31).

These bullet points encapsulate the diverse aspects and purposes of worship in the Christian context.
