Christ – The Light

“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of men.” — John 8:12

  • By His Very Nature, Jesus Is Light
  • God is Light:
    • 1 John 1:5: God embodies light, signifying purity and truth.
  • Jesus is “the image of the invisible God”:
    • Colossians 1:15: Jesus perfectly represents God, making Him the embodiment of divine light.
  • Therefore, “Jesus is Light”:
    • John 8:12: Jesus proclaims Himself as the light, guiding humanity.
  • Jesus Is Light
  • Reveals: Jesus brings clarity and understanding to our lives.
  • Illuminates: His presence dispels ignorance and darkness.
  • Jesus Dispels the Darkness of Sin
  • John 12:46: Jesus enters the world as light, driving away the shadows of sin.
  • Contrast to Darkness:
    • Darkness represents the natural man living in ignorance of:
    • Jesus Christ: Failing to recognize Him as Savior.
    • God as Revealed by Jesus Christ: Ignoring the truth about God.
  • Symbolism of Darkness:
    • Represents unpreparedness and lack of spiritual vigilance.
    • Loved by Sinful Men:
    • John 3:19-20: People prefer darkness because it allows them to hide their sins.
    • Hostility to Light:
    • John 1:5: Darkness is opposed to light, resisting the truth that Jesus brings.
